2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 237 - 10-31-2014

Working on giving this blog a permanent home.  Feel free to start checking it out.  Eventually, once I have the new one set up the way I want, this site will not be updated.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 236 - 10-30-2014

Still playing with the macro adapter and black and white. Pretty sure I'm getting my $5 worth out of the thing already. Has me wanting a high dollar macro lens pretty badly though.  A closeup of one of the pieces of computer parts that tend to find their way to my "museum" of computer parts that I have and will probably never use.

Only 3 more days left of this years photo project.  The days will get shorter.... and so will Devin's shooting time.  Don't worry, I have several mini projects planned for the Winter months that I will post on here.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 235 - 10-28-2014

A little pixel peeping on my daily photo from yesterday with the macro converter.  Shows you what it's all made of..... every thing you see on your screen.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 234 - 10-27-2014

Just a simple black and white shot of a barn that I took on my way home from work today.

Really thinking seriously about starting the new year limiting myself to only shooting in black and white for a few months. Hmmmmm.... do I hear the rumblings of another photo project?  We'll see.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 233 - 10-27-2014

Playing with the macro adapter a little more tonight.  Didn't really think about it at the time but this is actually a pretty fitting photo given the complexity of the method used to capture it.

Freedom Falls 10-25-14

Yesterday, I took a trip to Freedom Falls and Rockland Tunnel with some of my fellow photographers from the area.  I resigned myself "mostly" to black and white's.  Here are a few of the shots from that trip.

I was not able to restrain myself however from one HDR.  Will share because it actually came out really well.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 232 - 10-26-2014

Spent all day playing carpenter instead of photographer. Found some time just now to play around with my macro adapter. Finding it works good, but only with A LOT of light.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 231 - 10-25-2014

Had a great time with a great group of local photographers today. We hit up Freedom Falls and the Rockland Tunnel on the ART/NCT. This was a 15 second shot taken in the middle of the tunnel. I set the timer, ran into position and had my buddy Chuck light me with a flashlight for about 3 seconds. The dotted light is a biker's headlight as he passed by in the shot. Really like this one.  Black and white image of course. :)

Another one from the tunnel.  The light in the distance is not the end of the tunnel.  This tunnel is a long one with a bend in it.  It is the lights of bicycles coming towards me.  I think this is a pretty cool shot also.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 229 - 10-23-2014

Trying a quick macro shot.  Used my new filter mount that allows me to mount my 18-55 on my old T3 backwards.  Works alright, better than the rings I was using before, but still need a lot of light and a very steady hand.  But it only cost $5 with shipping, which is better than $1,000 for a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens. :)

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 228 - 10-22-2014

I just love this one. Not worried if anyone else does. So much going on in this one. As soon as I saw this scene today... I saw this picture.  Really happy that it turned out the way it did.  There will be more photos from this location in the future.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 227 - 10-21-2014

Cause they're yummy.... and I'm in a lazy kind of mood. :)

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 226 - 10-20-2014

Breaking away from the super saturated colors today. The HDR's have the WOW factor that people like, but I find black and whites to actually be more interesting. I like color pictures, but if someone told me I could only shoot black and white from this day forward... I wouldn't care. Taken at the cemetary around the corner from my house.

And.... a bonus image.  This is a black and white HDR that I took when I took my photo yesterday.  I think it too is very dramatic.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 225 - 10-19-2014

Last night Chuck Sidelinger contacted me wanting to go find a waterfall to shoot at this morning.  We chose to meet at Rapp Run Falls.  Took lots of photos and I decided to make an appearance in one.  Hello everybody.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 224 - 10-18-2014

Found a little Fall color today.... and a tunnel there to boot.  Gotta love that.  Taken on the Redbank Valley Trail in Climax.

Really going to have to start to sell some prints because I was really wanting a wider lens in this location. LOL

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 223 - 10-17-2014

Found this scary character just a bit early for Halloween. Scary looking fellow huh.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 222 - 10-16-2014

This tree has caught my attention every day this week on my way home from work. Figured today I had better stop and grab a picture before all the leaves fall off.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 221 - 10-15-2014

Felt like a little black and white today.  Did that with the help of this old, small barn on a back road and Topaz BW Effects.  A friend gave me a copy of Topaz recently and this is the first chance that I had to play with it. Simulated Kodak Tri-X film and increased the grain significantly.  Also underexposed a good bit.  I like the way it turned out.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 220 - 10-14-2014

Ohh life. How it gets in the way of things. This is why my daily photo project will only encompass the days during daylight savings time this year. As the days get shorter, the little daylight after work gets spent on everything besides the photography.... and an indoors photographer I am not. Threw the macro rings on my camera and snapped this one quickly. Didn't turn out bad, but didn't turn out really good either. Will have to invest in a good macro lens at some point in the future to really experience this side of photography.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 219 - 10-13-2014

Buzzed down River Road in Cook Forest State Park on the way home from work to grab some color for all of you.  Soak it up while you can folks.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 218 - 10-12-2014

Nice blue sky.  Only a few spots left on the camera sensor.  I only digitally removed 1 really bad one. I ordered a sensor cleaning kit to clean it myself (it was getting very dirty) before sending it in to Canon for a cleaning.  Before performing the cleaning, I had about 2 dozen spots on the sensor that would show up in pictures when I used a smaller aperature.  A pain in the butt to have to clean them up in photoshop every time.  I find it odd that the camera required a cleaning after only 11 months of use.  From talking to others, this is a very normal condition.  Sensors get dirty because of oil used to lubricate the shutter.  You would think that the engineers at Canon would develop their products a little better so that this wouldn't happen.  But then they wouldn't have people, ones that care about their photos, pay them for an annual cleaning I guess.  Hmmmm.  Probably will still send it in for a full cleaning, just have to figure out when I can be without it for 7 - 10 days.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 217 - 10-11-2014

Took a lot of "artistic license" with this one. Felt that I needed to suck the life out of it given the scene. This is the first rock that we encountered on a trip to Scripture Rocks today. This one starts out as Isaiah 49:17 and then I'm not really sure what happened. Only the guy who did this some time between 1907 and 1914 (who had more than a few screws loose) really knows I guess.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 215 - 10-09-2014

What's this?? A tree that still has predominantly green leaves on it?? This massive Oak tree is always the last one to lose it's leaves.  They fall off of it in the Winter and into the following Spring usually.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 214 - 10-08-2014

Took a little detour on the way home and stopped to take this shot of the leaves. Went pretty radical in post processing, but hey, it's my project so I can do what I want.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 212 - 10-06-2014

This is one of those rare days where I really wasn't in the mood to take a mandatory photo of the day.  So this is a cop out photo.  I set the camera to multiple exposure mode and took four photos of different colored branches of leaves.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 211 - 10-05-2014

Went to Benezett today to try to see some Elk.  Got a glimpse at some earlier in the day, but they were in thick brush and it was hard to get a good shot.  Right after I decided to head home, on the way out of town, this guy and another were in a yard.  I stopped and shot a few dozen shots from very close-up. In this picture I think he was trying to say "get rollin' Devin before I stomp you into the ground".  I agreed and moved on.

The other bull in the yard.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 210 - 10-04-2014

Ok. This one is really different. I expanded on how I took my photo last night. I shot this with my 70D set on ISO 12,800. Basically trying to take a nice camera and produce a grainy, noisy image. This tree over on the Callihan Farm caught my eye this morning, so I decided to make it my test subject.

And another one, a closeup of the tree.

I personally really like the results and you can be sure this is an avenue I will be experimenting with further.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 209 - 10-03-2014

This photo was purely experimental.  Wanted to see how a photo looks, unprocessed, using the highest ISO setting on my camera (12800) taking a picture of the night sky.  Looks pretty rough.... However, does give me an idea for a unique photography project. Hmmmm....

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 208 - 10-02-2014

Continued my search for foliage after work today.  On the way home, I stopped down at the boat launch in Gravel Lick, another one of my favorite spots along the Clarion River.

2014 Daily Photo Project - Day 207 - 10-01-2014

Headed down past my favorite tree in Cook Forest State Park today after work.  Figured it would be a golden color.  I was pleased to find that it was.
